The collaborative project “EffiSand” is funded by the European Union

With the kind financial support of the European Union, ThermHex Waben GmbH and the Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems IMWS are jointly researching resource-efficient processes for the production of durable, high-volume thermoplastic sandwich structures for use in highly loaded lightweight applications as part of the “EffiSand” project.

The focus is, on the one hand, on overcoming existing technological limitations in the continuous production of these structures, in particular the manufacturing of multi-layer, angled face sheets and the integration of even more efficient quality monitoring.

On the other hand, the potential of thermoforming processes for further processing these sandwich structures into 3D-formed components in short cycle times will be explored.

The project is scheduled to run from 01/05/2025 to 31/10/2027.
