On November 6th it is going to be exciting: Can ThermHex Waben make it from Halle (Saale) to Composites Europe in Stuttgart by canoe? After all, 1,142 kilometers would have to be covered on water, rivers and lakes. But with the Onak canoe they should be able to do that, because it doesn’t weigh 30 kg like a conventional one, but only 17 kg. ThermHex CEO Jochen Pflug will of course not paddle to the largest European industry get-together of the composites market: The boat is foldable and can be taken along as a trolley.

From 6 to 8 November, the innovative canoe, built in sandwich construction, can be tested and folded ashore at stand 7/A03. In addition to the mini-ship, ThermHex will also present its new honeycomb core. It is 15mm thick and has a cell size of 5mm. This is unique for polypropylene (PP) honeycomb cores.

This year Composites Europe focuses on lightweight construction concepts and automotive applications. With the growing importance of e-mobility in the automotive sector, the demand for economic and lightweight materials is increasing. The new PP honeycomb core from ThermHex offers an excellent solution for this need. The small cell size also ensures a significantly better surface quality. This means that a perfect surface can be achieved even with thin cover layers.

The additional product variation of the polypropylene honeycomb core is made possible by a new vacuum forming roll. With the new roll, ThermHex also increases resource and cost efficiency and achieves a higher production capacity. A new automated cut plotter also enables the delivery of customer-specific dimensions and thus increases automation within the production, which has just received the current ISO 9001:2015 certification for quality management.
